My name is Atanas Skatov, I was born in 1978 in Sliven, Bulgaria, I graduated high school in my hometown, received my master’s degree in Plant Protection at the Agricultural university of Plovdiv, Bulgaria and I completed my PhD degree at the Humboldt University of Berlin, Gemany February 2005. I’m an agronomist and entomologist.
I have worked as a scientist in Bulgaria and Germany, as a university teacher in Sofia and as a manager in the private sector in Bulgaria and Germany.
Until the summer of 2010 I hadn’t been involved in any physical exercise for the previous 14 years.
I do not consume meat since January 2007, and fish since December 2009. In the beginning of 2012 I excluded from my menu all animal products. I wanted to experiment with myself – to see the response of my physical body. The results were more than perfect in the first couple of months, I felt great strength and as each day passed I became more healthy, agile and strong. And that was the time when the idea came to me – to start my own project.

1. Climbing the highest summit of each continent without consumption of animal food
SEVEN SUMMITS VEGAN
2. Speed climbing of the 14-highest summits of earth over 8000m without consumption of animal food
Speed x 14 x 8000 xVEGAN
The goal of these projects are to make a research, which to show, if a reduction in the consumption of meat and animal products is healthy and will not affect the physical and mental qualities of human life. On the contrary — to show that without the consumption of animal products, the human body functions much better and can achieve higher physical and mental results. I intend to prove that by practicing the most stresfull sport activities — high altitude climbing. I have no coaches or teachers, I learn everything by myself.
The project 1 Seven summits Vegan started on 01 March 2012.
I started to prepare my body, mind and spirit for the project. I train 6 days a week, I choose different workout for each day depending on how I feel, what I want to do and what the is weather. I don’t have any specific schedule or program. I mostly practice mountain walking, hiking, mountainbik ing. Gradually, I added in my training climbing, running, yoga, swimming and some other sport activities.
In 2012 I started to participate in competitions. Here are some of my achievements.
• First place at the 24 hour marathon of mountain biking
•Third place bicycle rally Cup Murgash — mountain biking, 63 km, +2500 m denivelation;
•Passing Kom-Emine 700 km, + 16,000 m;
•100 km Aleko mountain walking for 16 hours;
•Tour of Vitosha 100 km by bike for 5 hours and 27 minutes;
•Speed climbing of the seven tops of Bulgaria for five days;
•Seventh in XCo Adventure Cup 2012 (256 km, 3 days, 7 subjects);
•Speed climbing of Cherni Vrah with a bicycle;
•bicycle rally Zarata;
•Winter 225 km brevet for 10 hours;
Almost one year of hard training and I felt ready to organize my first expedition. I chose Africa and its highest peak — Uhuru. In January 2013 I successfully climbed the summit, next in June 2013 I climbed Elbrus — the highest peak of Europe and went on a solo expedition for Lenin peak. There I reached 6900m and that was the highest point I have ever been by that time.
On 4th of January 2014 I summited solo Aconcagua — the highest point of South America as a Vegan.
On 24.May 2014 I successfully climbed the Highest point on Earth, EVEREST 8848m as a Vegan.
I’ve become the first vegan on the Planet that have climbed Everest
On 19 November 2014 I successfully climbed the Highest point on Australia and Oceania, Karstenz pyramid 4884m as a Vegan.
On 22. December 2014 I successfully climbed the Highest point on Antarctica, Vinson Massif 4902m as a Vegan.
On 20 June 2017 I successfully climbed the Highest point on North America, Denali 6194m as a Vegan.
Atanas Skatov is the only Bulgarian who climbed all 7 continental peaks and world first vegan completed the Seven Summits.
On 01 September 2015 I have started my second project:
Speed climbing of the 14-highest summit of earth without consumption of animal food as vegan
On 01 October 2015 I successfully climbed the Manaslu, 8165m as a Vegan.
On 1st of May 2016 I did successful summit of Annapurna peak, 8091m, which is the 10th highest peak on Earth, on 15th of May I reached 7900m before Dhaulagiri, 8172m in alpine style and then on 23th of May I did successful summit of Makalu peak, 8483m, in alpine style, which is the 5th highest peak, and I did only in 4 days. With all these achievement, I’ve become the first vegan on the Planet that have climbed 4 peaks over 8000 meter and made 3 expeditions over 8000 meter in 23 days.
I need the funds for completion of my second project.
The goal of the second project is to climb all the summits for very short period of time in order to further analyze how my physical and mental body will behave in such stressful environment. During the entire project i will make the respective medical examinations and they will be published for needs of the research.
The consumption of meat and meat production is one of the major sources polluting the Earth. The production of food for the animals takes 50% of the agricultural land. The gas methanе produced by them is the biggest destroyer of the ozone layer. As the human population is increasing ‚the consumption of meat is going up too, but the land is limited.
My main idea is that mankind could reduce the consumption of meat and meat products in order to release free land for production of plants food. I do want to do something for our Planet. I care very much for the future of our children and would like to show to everyone, that to live healthy and successful life as Vegan is completely possible. Up to now I was able, with my own savings and a few sponsors, to complete project 1. The second project requires much more funds as the costs for permits for summits, airway tickets and expedition are very significant.
For this reason, I am kindly asking for your support and would be glad if you become part of my mission to save our Planet Earth!
Together we could make it happen (take real action to do it ) instead of just talking about it!
Worldwide, Atanas Skatov will be the first vegan to implement such projects.
